“Embrace The Suck”

One of the great opportunities from spending over ten years as a diplomat for the United States was working closely with our military. The U.S. military truly is a phenomenal organization. Were I a young person nowadays, I might well consider joining the reserves as an officer.

But that's not the point of this post.

I noticed one of the phrases my military colleagues used sometimes was, "Embrace The Suck."

Embrace The Suck means just deal with the fact that whatever situation you are in sucks and you are going to have to tackle it and get through, over, under, or around it. It doesn't pretend the suck is about to go away. It just says get over yourself, hunker down, and keep plugging away.

I don't know this for sure, but I think it might also imply that those who can embrace the suck and just keep fighting through or working the problem are the ones who win--a battle, a struggle, a life.

Here's to embracing whatever suck you are dealing with in your life.
